Seamless Gutter Installation & Replacement in Vancouver, WA & Portland, OR

Gutters are the last step of your roof’s drainage system. When they sag, leak at the seams, or overflow onto the fascia and siding, water ends up exactly where it does the most damage. We install seamless gutters and downspouts formed on site to fit your home.

Why seamless gutters

Sectional gutters are pieced together from short lengths, and every joint is a place to leak, drip, and collect debris. Seamless gutters are formed on site from a continuous coil to the full length of each run, so the only joints are at corners and downspout outlets.

Good gutter installation is about more than the trough. Gutters need a steady slope toward each downspout, hangers fastened into solid fascia, and downspouts placed to carry water away from the foundation. If you’re planning a roof replacement, it’s often the best time to replace the gutters too — they frequently have to come off anyway to install new drip edge or repair fascia.

Warning signs

Signs your gutters need replacing

Not sure what you’re looking at? Photos from the ground with a zoom lens or from inside the attic are a safe way to check. Please don’t climb onto a wet or steep roof.

  • Gutters sagging, pulling away from the house, or separated at the seams
  • Water overflowing the gutter during normal rain, even when it’s clean
  • Drips or leaks at joints and corners
  • Standing water in the gutter after the rain stops (poor slope)
  • Peeling paint, stains, or rot on the fascia behind the gutter
  • Puddles, erosion, or splash marks near the foundation
  • Rust, holes, or cracks in older gutters and downspouts

Scope

What’s included — and what usually isn’t

Included in gutter installation

  • Removal and disposal of old gutters and downspouts
  • Seamless gutters formed on site to each run
  • Hangers fastened into solid fascia
  • Slope set toward each downspout
  • Corners, end caps, and outlets sealed
  • Downspouts and elbows directing water away from the house
  • Check of the fascia condition behind the gutters

Often separate from gutter work

  • Fascia and bargeboard replacement (available — see fascia replacement)
  • Underground drain lines, drywells, and storm connections
  • Grading, crawlspace, or foundation water problems
  • Interior repairs from past water damage

If rotted fascia is found when old gutters come off, it’s shown to you and priced before new gutters are hung.

The roof as a system

How a gutter system works

Gutter size

Gutter size is chosen for the roof area, pitch, and how much water each run collects. Large or steep roof areas may need a larger gutter or more downspouts.

Downspouts

Downspouts move water from the gutter to the ground. Enough downspouts, in the right places, keep gutters from overflowing in heavy Northwest rain.

Slope

Gutters are pitched slightly toward each outlet so water drains instead of sitting and spilling over.

Hangers

Hidden hangers fastened into the fascia hold the gutter in place and keep it from sagging under water and debris.

Drip edge

Metal at the roof edge that directs water into the gutter instead of behind it — a common cause of fascia rot when it’s missing.

Process

How a gutter replacement works

  1. Measure and assess

Each run, corner, and downspout location is measured, and the fascia and roof edge are checked.

  2. Estimate

You review a written scope with gutter runs, downspouts, and any fascia repairs.

  3. Remove the old system

Old gutters and downspouts are removed and hauled away, and fascia is repaired if needed.

  4. Form and hang

Seamless gutters are formed on site to length and hung with the correct slope.

  5. Downspouts and check

Downspouts are installed and the system is checked so water drains to the outlets.

Cost factors

What affects the cost of new gutters

We price gutter projects for your home’s specific runs and downspouts rather than publishing a per-foot rate.

  • Total length of gutter runs
  • Number of corners and downspouts
  • Height of the home and access
  • Removal of old gutters
  • Fascia repairs behind the gutters
  • Gutter size and color selection
  • Whether the work is done with a roof replacement

FAQ

Gutter Installation & Replacement questions

What are seamless gutters?

Seamless gutters are formed on site from a continuous coil to the exact length of each run. Without joints every few feet, there are fewer places for leaks and debris to collect.

Should I replace my gutters when I replace my roof?

Often, yes. Gutters frequently come off during a reroof to install new drip edge or repair fascia, and new gutters let the whole roof edge be detailed together. If your gutters are in good shape, they can be reinstalled.

Why do my gutters overflow in heavy rain?

Common causes are clogs, too few downspouts, gutters too small for the roof area, or gutters that have lost their slope. Overflow over time can rot the fascia and stain siding.

How many downspouts do I need?

It depends on the roof area draining into each gutter run and the run’s length. Long runs and large roof sections usually need more than one outlet.

Do you install gutters without a roof replacement?

Yes. Gutter installation and replacement is offered as a standalone service as well as with a roof replacement.
